Welcome to the new academic year! Everyone at NRCSE has come back refreshed and raring to go. We want this to be a great year for supplementary schools. We are working for you and with you to make sure everyone knows the excellent work that supplementary schools are doing. All the above courses can also be booked for your area as full courses (10-25 learners) – you provide the venue and set the date, we provide the trainer, course materials and assessment.
Teaching a Language in a Supplementary Schools (Accredited Level 2/Level 3) 19 October – 30 November (London). Open for individuals to book a place on this 6 week, nationally recognised course.
An opportunity to build on your existing teaching experience to develop new methods for teaching a language. The current community language GCSEs and A levels are available until 2018 – it’s really important that you support your pupils to enter this year and next.

Funding news
Government funds for grassroots organisations in East of England
- Official figures show only 25 per cent of 10-20-years-olds in the East of England are involved in youth action projects, compared to 40 per cent nationally – now Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk community foundations are here to help;
- Each foundation is set to give away £85,000 to community projects aimed at young people

More local funding opportunities – Community Foundations
There are community foundations throughout the UK, covering all of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and most of England. They are all listed on the UK Community Foundations (UKCF) website with direct links to each local community foundation so you can start applying for local funds within seconds.
UKCF is the umbrella organisation for all community foundations. We quality accredit our member community foundations to standards endorsed by the Charity Commission and provide advice and support. We also provide philanthropic advice to donors and work to deliver UK-wide fundraising and grant making programmes through community foundations.

Tiverton Education Fund
Evolution grants up to £30,000 to fund pilot projects to develop innovative new projects promoting education, or projects that are scalable and have the potential to support more groups or organisations within Tiverton, Devon to foster education locally.
How do I apply? Funding for groups and organisations is currently closed and will re-open on 28th September.

Redbridge Small Grants Fund
The London Community Foundation is distributing Redbridge Small Grants on behalf of The London Borough of Redbridge. The aim of the fund is to support small and emerging community and voluntary sector groups based in Redbridge and working for the benefit of Redbridge residents.
Purpose The purpose of this grant scheme is to contribute to creating a thriving third sector in Redbridge, increase civic participation in the local area and encourage participation in regular volunteering. The aim of the grants is to enable small and emerging voluntary and community groups operating within the borough to carry out work for the benefit of Redbridge residents.
Grant size Funding is available for grants between £250 and £5,000. The average grant is likely to be around £2,000, and grants above £2,500 will be unusual due to the overall level of funds available.

Mentoring matters
Mentors are essential for supporting supplementary schools to develop successfully. They guide and provide advice on building and sustaining a quality supplementary school provision. Becoming a Mentor can be part of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for senior staff in supplementary schools – good for your school and other schools in the area!
