Despite the good news last week there is still work to be done.
The new exams will require teacher training – £1.8million has been promised for mainstream MFL teachers to train in new exams, will there be support for supplementary school teachers?
The Persian/Farsi exams have not been included among those due to be taken over by Edexcel. What is the justification for this? Why are people of Iranian heritage being ignored? A petition has been organised by the Association of Farsi Schools – sign below to support this.
Dutch exams are also due to be dropped. This exam is predominantly taken by people who have come to Britain as refugees via the Netherlands. Is the opportunity to take the exam something that has been important to their careers, further education? Because it is not being taken by any one particular community it’s difficult for us to gauge. If you have taken the Dutch GCSE, get in touch.
Rumi, Khayyam, Hafez were all Persian poets. Scrapping Persian GCSE & A-level is big mistake. (CC: @NickyMorgan01): https://t.co/Sil9MsQJQE
