Language Festival 2013
Today, the British Academy and Guardian have launched a new Language Festival for November 2013, to promote and raise the profile of higher levels of language learning. The joint Language Festival will build on the success of the British Academy’s Language Week held last year. Throughout November, the festival will provide a platform for schools, HEIs, students, policy makers and businesses from across the UK to discuss, debate and explore the academic, cultural and economic benefits of language learning. The Language Festival will culminate in the 2013 British Academy Schools Language Awards, where the Guardian will also be announcing the winner of the Guardian’s first ever Public Language Champion Award, voted for by the public.
The Language Festival’s digital platform was launched today on the Guardian’s website (http://www.theguardian.com/language-festival). This platform will enable people to access up-to-date information about the festival, debate current issues and find detailed research, data and publications outlining the benefits of language learning.

his AGM will launch the findings from the seminar series, Shaping the Future: Getting the best education for BAME children and young people. The findings report growing concern among London’s BAME communities and educators about the potential impact of educational reforms and public spending cuts on educational equality. BAME young people and parents called for support to enable them to have greater influence on education.
