Yesterday evening over 40 supplementary schools in the London boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster came together with council leads, funders and CVS officers to discuss what it takes to build successful partnership.
The event started with stimulating presentations from council leads on cross-borough partnership. Followed by one of the major funders of such work and two supplementary school directors.
Narrowing the Gap : John Paxton, Secondary Lead, Barnet & Joy Collins, Senior Professional Enhancing Achievement Service, Harrow.
Funding Partnership Working: Noelle Gilbert, Paul Hamlyn Foundation
Making it Work! :Luljeta Nuzi, Shpresa Programme and Iris Radulian, MY Romania School
The event also was an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of 78 learners (42 from the John Lyon’s Charity boroughs) who have this year completed level 2 and level 3 courses on Effective management of Supplementary Schools and Teaching in Supplementary Schools.
After a break to look at stalls showing examples of partnership work and an opportunity to network (the starting point for new partnerships!), participants got into focus groups to discuss the following three questions.
From your point of view, what is partnership working?
How can partnership working benefit your
supplementary school?
What do you need to take into consideration to plan an effective partnership?
The cross-borough partnership between all eight boroughs and the many local supplementary schools that support 1,000s of children each week, is funded by John Lyon’s Charity, as are the three NRCSE project workers who facilitate this termly event.
What a great evening! Thank you NRCSE for this very useful and informative event!
Iris well done for tonight your presentation was very good, Noelle thank you for the tips and the news that there is one more funding rounds at Paul Hamlyn foundation until the new guidelines are made available. Well done to all the schools for successfully training their staff on effective management and teaching at supplementary schools especially Mother Teresa Albanian Union, Kosova School and Ardhmeria
Joy, the partnership model that you have created is very creative and I wish all the boroughs had someone like you to make it work.
It was an outstanding event ! Luljeta Nuzi, Director, Shpresa Programme.
Well done NRCSE for putting on this event. I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it with great excitement by seeing so many teachers including Leicester teachers received their OCN qualification!. Abdishakur Tarah, Complementary Schools Co-ordinator, School Development Support Agency.
