Students at supplementary schools in Harrow will benefit from extra lessons in English, Maths and Science thanks to a successful funding bid. Harrow Supplementary Schools’ Forum (HSSF) has been awarded £75, 000 by the John Lyon’s Charity to run extra sessions at up to six schools on Saturday mornings.
Funds will be spent to support supplementary education over the next three years and divided between up to six supplementary schools who have achieved the Quality Framework Bronze Award, a national kitemark which covers teaching and learning, governance and community engagement.
The schools identified so far are:
- The Iranian School operating from Belmont
- KPS Gujarati School operating from Kenmore Park
- Middlesex Tamil Academy operating from Harrow High
- Tamil Hendon School operating from Canons
- Somali Cultural and Educational Association
Teachers will be recruited to lead the sessions by the panel and will be jointly managed by the panel and the Supplementary School managers.
Portfolio holder for children, schools and families, Cllr Mitzi Green said: “It is good news that pupils who attend these supplementary schools will be able to benefit from this additional funding. “This money will go towards providing extra support to pupils who need it and help them to reach or exceed their expected grade targets.”
