As quality assured supplementary schools striving to follow best practice your views are crucial. Please complete the online questionnaire.
As you will be aware, NRCSE has participated in the Department for Education Advisory Group on a new voluntary safeguarding code of practice for out-of-school settings. These settings are any activities being run outside the full-time school day: youth clubs, sports and uniformed groups, faith classes and supplementary schools.
AMS and NRCSE welcome the Department for Education’s endeavours to harmonise the various codes of practice and safeguarding guidance that exist across the out-of-school sector and support the idea of clear and straightforward guidance for parents. Supplementary education that complements and builds on the teaching and learning taking place in mainstream schools is crucial to ensure that all children grow up confident and resilient to bullying and hate.
The Department for Education is consulting on the development of a draft voluntary safeguarding code of practice for out-of-school settings (OOSS), as well as guidance for parents on key questions they may wish to consider when choosing an out-of-school setting for their child. Responses are being sought on proposals relating to: health and safety; online and digital safety; suitability of staff and volunteers; governance; finance.
The deadline for responses is 24 February 2019.
