Session One – 20 May 2020

Warm-up and concentrations activities from Artis:

Activity 1: Fish Game – quick, fun warm up for concentration!

https://www.artisfoundation.org.uk/teaching-resource/fish-game-concentration-and-focus/

Activity 2: A simple welcome song. Particularly good for younger children. In a remote format this could be taught just using the ‘character voice’ element and moving on your own in character.

Activity 3: Clap and click – another simple focus game. The example uses a drum, but you could improvise if you don’t have an instrument at home (e.g. Tap a mug with a pen; tapping the mug = clap, tapping the handle = click!)

Anila Kadija from Ardhmëria, an Albanian Supplementary School talked about her project ‘Old Fashioned, Young Life project’:

The project is designed for 6-10 year old children. It’s voluntary and seeks to bring the flavour of art to her lessons when teaching online. The aim is to create an activity that is fun, artistic and inspires children to get to know the artist who painted the picture. The children then create an individual work (a similar photo) and practice their language by thinking and writing through art. Children first start talking about the painting, its time and the history behind it, they write about it in the Albanian language what they feel and what they like about it. Try to guess what objects are drawn in the painting and the colours used and then make a small dictionary including all the words, expressions they learnt.

What Supplementary Schools tell about us

I felt that this course was very useful. It was engaging and interactive. It was actually one of the best courses that I have attended and certainly met its objective as far as I am concerned. I am certainly more knowledgeable around issues surrounding safeguarding.
