Remote teaching and digital skills in supplementary schools – Cohort 2

August 25, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

New online course building on our Effective Teaching Skills course to include guidance, best practice and lots of practical activities for teaching remotely.

The course uses Google Classroom and Zoom. We started running our teacher training online in May 2020 and have received very positive feedback.

Even in the current circumstances where the training had to be adapted for online lessons in such a short period of time, it was very well designed and covered all the necessary information’

‘All the information provided in the course was extremely useful and can be used at our school. The lesson plan model lesson was very effective and easy to use. All the information about specifics roles at supplementary school were very important and clearly given’

I found all aspects of the training very useful. The separate rooms in groups gave us a chance to discuss different ideas and strategies. We were able to discuss the video observations and compare ideas. The various hand-outs and PowerPoint slides were comprehensive and clear and I could compare my skills to the information provided. Angela delivered the course very clearly and found all the information she provided useful in all aspects.

The course lasts 5 weeks and leads to a certificate from the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education.

Topics are as follows:

  1. Mainstream and Supplementary Schools
  2. Role of the Teacher and Evaluation
  3. Teaching Methods and Lesson Planning
  4. Assessment
  5. Learning Environment

Each week you will do some preparation at home, meet up online for a Zoom tutorial for the whole group, and write a short assessment task, which you upload to Google Classroom.  Your tutor marks it and sends you comments using Google Classroom.  You will have a week after the end of the course to complete your written assessment tasks, and if necessary, have an individual tutorial.

Thanks to the London Community Response Fund and John Lyon’s Charity we are able to offer this course free-of-charge to community-led supplementary schools in London. We only ask that you be subscribed to NRCSE. If need to renew or join click here

To enable as many supplementary schools as possible to benefit from this course the offer is limited to two teachers per school.
