Quality assurance for supplementary schools
We will be celebrating the London supplementary schools that have achieved a Quality Framework Award this year.
If you are a Quality Framework mentor or a supplementary school that has completed the online self-assessement and is ready for your Bronze Quality Framework Award – get in touch with us as soon as possible.
The Museum of London’s new supplementary schools programme manager, Emma Taylor, will be introducing herself and the exciting programme being prepared to engage supplementary schools, their pupils, parents and staff with the wonderful collections at the museum. More information below:
Dear all,
I am writing to let you all know that the Museum of London’s brand new programme to engage supplementary school students and families with its collections has now BEGUN! After three years working on the Supplementary Schools programme at the British Museum I am so pleased to be able to work with you all again on this new programme which will offer so many exciting opportunities for teachers, students and families to uncover the stories of London’s past and to think about what it means to be a modern Londoner today!
The programme will be based at the Museum of London (London Wall) http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/london-wall/ and Museum of London Docklands near Canary Wharf http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/docklands/ so there will be plenty of spectacular collections, interactive galleries and child-friendly spaces to explore. It is a free programme, suitable for a broad range of ages and is open to all supplementary schools based in London and throughout the UK. Our aim is to develop a welcoming, creative and responsive programme to allow young people to gain new skills and experiences and to support teachers to understand all the ways in which the museum can be used to support your teaching.
The core programme offer will include:
- Regular teacher and volunteer training sessions
- Object handling outreach visits to supplementary schools
- Learning resources
- Weekend events for young people and their families to explore the museum
(Specific details to follow).
Do you want to actively shape the programme? We are currently looking for supplementary school teachers to sit on our advisory group, which will meet every three months to support me to develop a meaningful and sustainable programme suitable for supplementary schools. I anticipate that these meetings will take place in the evening and last for a few hours each. If you would like to be part of this group and are able to commit to meeting on a regular basis, then please email me your name, job title and school to etaylor@museumoflondon.org.uk by Monday 15th June and say a bit about why you would like to get involved.
