Quality assurance for supplementary schools
The Quality Framework for Supplementary Schools is proud to be a voluntary, sector-led and peer-assessed quality assurance scheme for all forms of complementary educational provision.
Over 350 schools throughout England have completed a Bronze Quality Framework Award since its introduction in 2008. The award has been carefully evaluated and updated in 2009 and 2013 to ensure that it remains a rigorous and effective means of supporting the provision of community-led education.
It is suitable for all forms of out-of-school-hours educational support including supplementary schools, complementary and mother tongue schools, Saturday schools, homework clubs, tuition centres, faith-based education such as temple, madrassah and Sunday schools.
The Quality Framework is assessed at three levels:
Self-assessment – via the How to deliver quality supplementary education manual, available to purchase from our online shop and the online self-assessment tool
Mentor assessment – through the support of registered Quality Framework Mentors employed by local authorities, CVSs, or independent mentors with experience of community development and teaching in a UK setting
Peer assessment – at Quality Framework Recognition meetings across England where 3-6 supplementary schools come together with their portfolios of evidence, present, review and assess each other’s provision
The National Advisory Group is made up of supplementary schools from across England who have achieved the highest level awards in their region. They meet for a full day, twice a year, to review all the Quality Framework Awards that have been achieved in the previous six months and develop strategy for the future growth of the sector.
